Lionel Messi has agreed in principle to a new deal at Barcelona, which will tie him to the La Liga club until 2021 or 2022. Messi has only one year left on his current contract, but intends to continue under new manager Ernesto Valverde. Spanish newspaper, Marca, reports that the 29-year-old’s pay packet will vary from year to year. With the agreement close, lawyers will draft up the contracts in the coming weeks. Messi managed 54 goals in all competitions for Barcelona in just 52 games last season. It was only enough for the Camp Nou side to win the Copa del Rey, as they were beaten to the league title by rivals Real Madrid and got eliminated from the Champions League by Juventus.

Niger Delta Militants Threaten To Resume Bombing Of Pipelines In 14-Days

A Niger Delta militant group, Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders, NDRC, has threatened to resume hostilities in 14 days if the Federal Government disregarded its five-point demand, including inauguration of a panel to negotiate with the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF. Two South American legends, Ronaldinho and Juan Roman Riquelme, would consider coming out of retirement, to play for Chapecoense, according to reports. The Brazilian team lost 19 players as well as backroom staff, in a plane crash in Colombia on Tuesday. Despite the tragic incident, Chapecoense may still be required to play some matches in the coming weeks. It is understood that Ronaldinho and Riquelme, have offered their services for free. Ronaldinho’s agent and brother, Roberto Assis, says no talks have taken place, but that the two-time FIFA World Player of the Year will do all he can to help the club. “It is a very difficult time,” Assis told Globo Esporte. “Later on, if there is a contact, we can talk. “I can only say that we are here and we want to help. “He (Ronaldinho) fits the profile, can be the right guy. President Buhari Approves $2.4bn For Construction Of Lagos Red Line Rail

The President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has approved the construction of the $2.4 billion Lagos red line rail project. According to Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, approving the right of way for the project had been a problem for donkey’s years as the Federal Government in the previous administration was reluctant to do so. Bear in mind, the right of way belonged to the Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC. “It took us four and half years to get approval for the project. It took us another four years to get them to discuss the technicality of the project with us. The right-of-way has been approved and we are in full discussion with the bidders,” he said. David Moyes has been sacked as manager of La Liga strugglers Real Sociedad a day short of his one-year anniversary at the Spanish club. The 52-year-old steered the Basque team to 12th spot last season after taking charge on 10 November 2014. But La Real are only outside the relegation zone on goal difference and Friday’s 2-0 defeat at Las Palmas was their fourth in five league games.
