Hameed Ali May Reject PMB’s Appointment

President Muhammadu Buhari has
recently appointed Hameed Ali as the
new comptroller-general of Nigerian
Customs Service, but surprisingly he is
yet to assume duty.
Daily Trust reports that Ali who is yet to take his oath of
office has also not showed up in his new place of work.
Sources said the former military governor of Kaduna state is
not interested in taking up the post.
One source said on the day his appointment was made known,
Ali left Abuja and came back to his home in Kaduna for
unfamiliar reasons.
However, the appointment of non-customs official to head the
office may bring many complications.
Sources said many names were sent to President Buhari but he
denied them and chose for an outsider to head the service
because majority of them are not clean enough from their
records.
Buhari appointed Hameed Ali, a retired colonel, as the
Comptroller-General of Nigerian Customs Service, curiously
finding no career customs official suitable for the post on
August 28, Thursday.
It should be noted that Colonel Ali is widely reputed to be a
spartan anti-corruption crusader, more stringent and harsh than
President Buhari.
